Canada based global smartphone making company BlackBerry has introduced yet another device named the BlackBerry 9720 in Indian market with a price tag of Rs. 15,999. It
will be running on the BlackBerry 7.1 Operating System instead of the
newly-launched revamped BlackBerry 10
mobile OS platform.
Last month the company
unveiled this new smartphone while promising that it will hit the highly
potential markets like Latin America and Asia in upcoming weeks. Expectations
are quite high this time with this device, and the makers are hoping to
accelerate their ongoing comeback process with this launch.
The BlackBerry 9720 measures
12mm in thickness and weighs only 120 grams just like the other similar devices
of company’s Curve series phones. It sports a QWERTY keyboard along with a 2.8-inch
touchscreen display screen (TFT LCD). The screen offers resolution support of
360*480 pixels with a fairly modest pixel density of 214 ppi. It is having an
806MHz Tavor MG1 processor while featuring RAM capacity of 512MB.
This BlackBerry phone boasts a 5-megapixel rear shooter
which comes with 4X digital zoom and options for image stabilization. The
camera also supports LED Flash, but sadly the device is not having a front
facing camera for video calling. It is backed up by a 1,450mAh removable
battery which can easily deliver 432 hours of standby time and up to 7 hours of
talk time.
It is true that the new
BlackBerry 9720 supports only 512MB of inbuilt storage which is quite low while
comparing with similar offerings of rival companies. But its memory is
expandable by up to 32GB with the help of a microSD card. The device supports
some useful shortcut keys such as BBM and BBM Voice. These keys have been
nicely placed on the sides of the phone. It is also supported with FM radio
facility and for connectivity purpose it is equipped with options like Bluetooth,
GPS/ aGPS, Wi-Fi and 3G.
Mr. Sunil Lalvani, who is the Managing Director at
BlackBerry India, was present at the launch event. He expressed his utmost joy
while unveiling the device. He said, "The new BlackBerry 9720 smartphone
builds on the incredible success of the BlackBerry 7 OS. This new smartphone is
absolutely stunning and provides an ideal choice for urban youth and customers
who are looking to upgrade from a feature phone or existing BlackBerry Curve
smartphone to an affordable, easy-to-use smartphone with rich messaging and
social networking connectivity."
It is announced that the
BlackBerry 9720 will be having five different color variants which are Black,
Pink, Purple, Blue and White. As per company’s claim the new device the
smartphone will hit stores from September 14 of this month only.
