The tech major Google has
finally announced the name of its upcoming Android version along with Nexus 7 giveaway. The new version 4.4
will be called Android 4.4 KitKat,
and it is the very first time when the search engine giant has chosen a
brand-name candy for its popular mobile OS platform.
The company has also confirmed that the Android OS is currently powering over 1 billion tablets and smartphones worldwide,
which has made it most heavily-used mobile OS. Google has a tendency of naming
each of the Android versions after a dessert such as Cupcake, Gingerbread, Ice
Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean etc. However, this time it has decided to name the
next version of Android after chocolate brand KitKat.
The new Android KitKat is expected to launch this October, and the
famous Kit Kat packaging will showcase Android's green robot mascot is
eventually breaking a Kit Kat candy bar itself. The best part is those special Android-branded
KitKat packaging could easily help you to win a Nexus 7 or Google Play credit only by checking the wrapper. There will be as
much as 1000 Nexus 7 tablets, 150,000 Google Play credits ($5 each) and 20,000
coupons for a free 8 ounce bag of Kit Kat Minis, Android Police reported. The contest will kick off on 6th September and
stays live till January 31, 2014.
It has to be mentioned here that the Hershey Co. is making KitKat, and
their financial terms and conditions with Google weren’t disclosed yet.
I want to clear out something here that Google is not stealing a
trademarked name rather it is using an established brand name for its own tech
product to enhance its value. It is indeed a win-win situation for both the
companies.
Jennifer Podhajsky, the Vice President of U.S. chocolate at Hershey,
said that around six to nine months back Google asked Hershey for required
permissions to use the name. We know that the Hershey licenses the Kit Kat
brand in the United States, while Nestle owns the brand worldwide.
Podhajsky added that the deal attracts her company due to the fact that Android basically best-suited for the young aged people, and the famous Kit
Kat's jingle (Gimme a break!) is likely to encourage people to take a break in
order to check their tablets or smartphones.
"Kit
Kat consumers are young, vibrant consumers of candy and chocolate bars, and
that's a nice match with Android," Podhajsky mentioned.
Earlier many tech experts have predicted that the next version of
Android Operating System will be called Key Lime Pie. This means the Kit Kat is
vastly unexpected for many people around the different corners of the world.
The director of Android Marketing Marc Vanlerberghe said, “Kit Kat bars have been a favorite go-to snack among the team
since the early days of Android." This is the primary reason of choosing this name, he added.
Google is confident of developing an outstanding Android experience
available for everybody. The new Android
4.4 KitKat is expected to carry some out of the box features that will
eventually win the hearts of the common people.
Android 4.4 Kitkat has opened gates for MNC's, how they can co-operate and make millions. Nestle has already produced 50,000 custom KitKat chocolate units for the promotion.

@Ambika- Yeah Google has a tendency of naming each of the Android versions after exciting desserts...but don't you think this name might hamper Nestle's image...as Android has become prone to bugs and spams...don't you think the merger with Android might hamper KitKat's image a bit??

Hi Aditya,

Looks they've finished all the supper and now its time to go for chocolates? KitKat is one of our kid's favorite brand.
However, the power of Android made it possible for smartphones to compete easily with iPhones. Thanks for Google and Samsung :)
