A recent study revealed that the total number of Internet connections in
India is very much likely to surpass at least 380 million by the year of 2017.
Now days Indians are very much comfortable with the Internet World, and they
are very much active in social media sites like Facebook, Twitter too.
The study added that it is growing with a very steady rate (35%)
annually, which is great indeed. Indians are coping up with the leading
countries, as currently they are also making full use of the advantages of the
Internet.
The study was conducted by Assocham and Yes Bank, it mainly focused to
the Driving Growth of New Media. The following is a very small excerpt from the
published study paper of Assocham-Yes Bank.
“Growing
at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 35 percent, total number of
Internet connections in India is expected to surpass 380 mn by 2017 from the
current level of 168 mn."
The study added that in last five years people of the country have
become more comfortable in using Wireless connections to access the Internet. In
fact during the period of 2012-17, Wireless connections consist around 90% of
all new connections that are added by the Indians.
Another highlighting point of the study is, in December 2012 the number
of people in urban India that access social media sites frequently exceeded 60
million. As per the estimation this number is very much likely to touch 66
million by June 2013.
In recent times people from all over the world use social networking
sites Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ like crazy. They used it for both personal
and business/professional purpose. Eventually these three top most social media
sites have around one billion users all together. It has to be added here that Facebook and Twitter unveiled apps for Google Glass recently.
The study mentioned the influence of these sites on the people. "Social media is fast being recognized as a powerful brand
management tool for targeted engagements with the consumer," the study added.
Even the professional social media site LinkedIn too has been receiving
good exposures from the Indians. In fact LinkedIn now has more than 20 million users in India only. We can say that Indians are using internet
to showcase their professional identity, and boost up their business or
personal connections related to their works.
Common Indians are a huge fan of video streaming sites like YouTube too.
In fact now days even the film makers are targeting these mediums to reach
directly to the consumers. As a result of it for last couple of years various
popular Bollywood songs, scenes, trailers, and teasers are first released in
the Internet as a very important part of the overall promotional and marketing
campaign.
Rajkumar Dhoot, who is the current President of Assocham, said, "The mobile revolution is being spearheaded by increasing
sales of mobile devices and smartphones as well as the rapid adoption of
android and 3G services."
