Finland based global mobile making company Nokia is all set to bid adieu the era of Symbian smartphones. In January 2013, the smartphone maker had
officially announced that PureView 808 was the very last smartphone of
the Symbian series which to be developed and manufactured by the company
itself.
The market analysts were expecting that Nokia will eventually put a stop
to the shipping of Symbian smartphones, as it was pretty evident even at that
period of time. Now Nokia makes it official by announcing that from now on it
will completely
concentrate on its Windows series phones.
The Financial Times
recently published a report on this topic, and in the report it cleared that
this summer the Finnish company will be dispatching the last set of shipments
of its Symbian smartphones. The report also added that Nokia was able to sell
only 5 lakh units of Symbian phones during the first quarter of 2013. On the
other hand it successfully shipped more than 5.6 million Lumia smartphones
which are based on the Windows Phone
operating system.
Once upon a time Nokia was the undisputed king of global mobile market,
but it didn’t able to hold its position. Basically it failed to keep pace with
the times that were changing pretty fast. Then the smartphone world saw the
rise of android based smartphones especially in the hands of Korean based
smartphone making company Samsung.
Nokia failed to compete with the products offered by companies like Apple and Google, and with times these two companies took the lead. Nokia ultimately
decided to form a partnership with the global IT major Microsoft to develop compelling smartphones on Windows Phone platform.
This was a crucial bid for the Finnish company to make a strong comeback in the
worldwide mobile space.
You might aware of the fact
that Nokia had unveiled PureView 808 in February 2012. This smartphone has 41-megapixel
camera sensor, which is its main USP (unique selling point) for sure. I think
this post should add names of a few popular smartphones which are based on Symbian
platform. Some of the popular Symbian smartphones are Nokia E61, Nokia 9210
communicator, E71 in the QWERTY E-Series, Nokia N95 and N8.
Nokia is also providing Symbian series phone in the Indian mobile market
under the popular Asha series. Nokia has even unveiled Asha 501 very recently, which is
the very first smartphone that is running on the new revamped Asha platform.
Nokia gave a slight hint that it might start shipping this phone from June 2013.
The company is eying for a comeback in the Indian mobile space too as currently
it is facing stiff competitions from various local brands. Nokia is eagerly
hoping to regain its lost glory through its Asha range of smartphones.

Now tell us what do you
think about this decision of Nokia? Is it okay to completely shut the shipping
of Symbian smartphones and move to windows phone? Have you ever used any Nokia
mobiles? Do let us know. If you like our articles then please feel free to

Nokia must have taken this decision much early. They were far behind the technology of android and iOS even last year or last to last year. Now i want them to start making android devices, this way they'll bring their lost spark in the technology world.
ReplyDelete@Majaal- You are right dude...but I won't think Nokia will start adopting android OS soon....It is happily relying on Microsoft's Windows phone platform....and according to me its not that bad....
DeleteIt's time to say goodbye to Symbion as it is a failure in front of Android and ios devices!
ReplyDelete@Arun- Yup the time has finally come to say bye bye to the Symbian phones....It was not a complete failure as Nokia's Asha series phones are running quite successfully in Indian Market....
DeleteThanks for stopping and commenting...though I would appreciate a detailed comment next time than "Thanks for sharing"....
ReplyDeleteWell it's a nice move by Nokia because symbian is outdated and don't understand why nokia put symbian in nokia 808. if it without symbian then may be this will the great phone of the seasons but now it's good decision by them.
ReplyDeleteYup I'm totally agreed with you...the Pure View Nokia 808 should be running on Windows 8 platform....but I think Symbian phones have done good businesses for Nokia over the years... isn't it??? Have you ever used any Symbian phones????
